Air Operations Officer I
Air Operations Officer I is an entry-level position performing work in the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's (CAL FIRE) Aviation Management program.
An Air Operations Officer I:
- Acts as lead pilot, provides technical instructions, guidance and direction to a group of pilots
- Helps develop and administer pilot training and qualification programs
- Monitors and schedules pilot duty assignments
- Acts as relief and primary pilot for state-owned aircraft in performance of fire and vegetation management projects
Knowledge
Must possess knowledge of state and federal forest and fire laws and regulations of the Department of Transportation, FAA and other regulations governing civil aircraft operation and maintenance, as well as use of aircraft in operations similar to those of CAL FIRE's.
Abilities
Must be able to plan, organize, and direct the work of others in maintenance and/or operation of aircraft of the types used by CAL FIRE in its fire control and vegetation management programs. Also, will supervise and schedule pilots.
