Tony Favro was appointed as the Chief of Program Accountability and Information Security Officer (ISO) for the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) on November 10, 2008. In this dual role, he oversees the Department’s internal auditing function and administers its information security and privacy protection programs to ensure compliance with State and Departmental policies, rules, and regulations.

Favro directs internal control audits and sensitive reviews of expenditures during major incidents, advises and provides support and consultation to the Department’s Executive Management Team on a variety of audit related issues, and represents CAL FIRE before various control agencies. As the CAL FIRE ISO, he is the liaison between the Department and the State Office of Information Security and Privacy Protection (OISPP), overseeing policy, coordinating information security alerts and training within the Department, and reporting information security incidents to the California Highway Patrol and OISPP.

With a bachelor’s degree in English from Santa Clara University, Favro blends strong communication skills with an ability to work cooperatively with staff at all levels, other State departments, control agencies, and other public and private entities.

During his 16 years with CAL FIRE, Favro has held a variety of positions that have provided him with invaluable experience and insight into the Department. Prior to his current appointment, he managed CAL FIRE’s Classification and Pay and Policy and Project Services Units within Human Resources. He has also supervised the Department’s Health and Fitness Unit, managed the Aviation Management Administrative Support Program, worked as the Administrative Officer for the Fire Protection Program, and spent time in Information and Public Affairs and Business Services.
