Proposition 40 Fuels Management Program Eligibility
Nonfederal lands in 15 Sierra Nevada counties are eligible for the Prop. 40 Reduction Program: Butte, Plumas, Sierra, Yuba, Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Alpine, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Madera, Mariposa, Fresno, and Tulare.
Eligible participants may be either government agencies or nonprofit organizations. Per the Public Resources Code, Section 30910(c) "Nonprofit Organization" means any California corporation organized under Section 501(c)(3) of the federal Internal Revenue Code.
Individual landowners are eligible for Prop 40 Fuel Management Program grants from CAL FIRE's partner, Sierra Coordinated Resource Management Council http://www.placercountyrcd.org
CAL FIRE has developed maps to aid in the identification of high priority areas for fuels reduction projects to protect watersheds and water quality. These county-based maps are based on California Fire Plan data that indicate watershed and water quality assets at risk of being adversely impacted by wildfire.
- Prop. 40 county maps of priority areas of watershed assets at risk.
- Explanation of Priority Ranking Method.
Projects outside of the above priority areas will be considered for funding as well, as long as the applicant can demonstrate the project's watershed and/or water quality protection values.
