Current Situation

Situation Summary

Fire crews continued to make progress on the #AirportFire, which remains at 23,519 acres with 31% containment. The mild weather has enabled crews to improve firebreaks and reinforce the fire's edges. Firefighters also continued extinguishing hot spots and mopping up, with ground crews accessing areas where possible and receiving support from aircraft.
The Ortega Highway, between Orange County and Lake Elsinore, is now open. However, motorists are reminded to drive with caution in the fire areas as crews are still working near the highway and on other access roads in nearby communities.

Governor Gavin Newsom has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppressing the Airport Fire.
