Eric Huff
Deputy Director, Resource Management
Chief Huff began his career with CAL FIRE in 1991 as a Forestry Aide at Mountain Home Demonstration State Forest. In 1993, he separated from CAL FIRE and was hired as a temporary employee working on logging and tree planting crews at Big Creek Lumber Company in Davenport, California. He passed the Professional Foresters Examination in 996 and was promoted in 1999 to Chief Administrative Forester with responsibility for oversight of Big Creek’s Forestry Department.
In May 2004, Chief Huff returned to public service as the Assistant Executive Officer/Executive Officer of Professional Foresters Registration with the State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection. He served the Board in this capacity for nearly eight years. In December 2011, Chief Huff accepted a position with CAL FIRE as the Forester II-Regulations Coordinator assigned to the Board. He worked briefly in the Headquarters Forest Practice Program before accepting the position of Forester II, Resource Management Training at the CAL FIRE Training Center in March 2014.In September 2016, he left the Training Center to work as the Forester II-Reforestation Program Manager at the Lewis A. Moran Reforestation Center in Davis. He served there until February 2017 when he was promoted to Staff Chief of the Forest Practice Program at CAL FIRE Headquarters in Sacramento. In 2023, Chief Huff was promoted to Assistant Deputy Director overseeing the Forest Practice Program.
Chief Huff has a bachelor’s degree in Forest Resource Management from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and is Registered Professional Forester No.2544. He is a member of CAL FIRE’s Leadership Cadre and the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Natural Resources and Environmental Science Program Advisory Council.
