Current Situation

Situation Summary

DIXIE FIRE – LASSEN COUNTY, STATE ROUTE 36 ROAD REOPENING (9/2/21 AM)

WHAT: Road Closure on State Route 36 between Westwood and Susanville will be lifted in Lassen County.

WHEN: Thursday, September 2, 2021

WHERE: Between the Junction of State Route 44 and County Road A-21.

Traffic Control Measures and a Pilot Car will be in place for the Good Fred Construction Project.

Current roadway status can be found at: Caltrans – https://roads.dot.ca.gov  or http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov

Current Situation:

Dixie Fire West Zone: Resources have completed black line allowing mop-up phase to begin in the Mineral area. Crews continue to establish direct and indirect containment lines as well as conduct fuel reduction efforts in the Old Station area. In the National Park crews made good progress with fire control efforts utilizing aircraft, water and retardant drops where possible. Crews will complete contingency lines and provide structure protection in both north and south of Janesville and Milford respectively. Crews will continue to fight fire aggressively while winds are expected to subside across the fire area, except in the southeast near HWY 395. Extreme fire behavior is expected to continue with wind and dry fuel conditions overnight. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Fire Train continues to protect critical infrastructure. Aircraft will continue to provide support as conditions allow.

Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and to monitor evacuation information and road closures, including social media and local law enforcement websites for the most current information. Residents will see smoke coming from trees and stumps for days following their return. Proceed with caution because burned out areas may have unseen hazards. Residents are encouraged to call 911 if they are concerned about any active flames near their homes or businesses. Damage assessment remains ongoing. Change in threatened structures due to new Evacuation Warnings in Lassen, Plumas and Shasta County.

Dixie Fire East Zone: An aggressive head fire fueled by 40 mile per hour winds grew to the northeast of Queens Creek Road, crossing forest road 177, spreading towards Ferris Flat and south of Johnson Hill. The fire was moving too fast to put personnel directly in its path. Firefighters, supported by aircraft and dozers, attacked from the northwest and southeast flanks of the fire, pressing in from both sides. Crews were also battling a spot fire that breached constructed dozer line in Clover Valley. Multiple engines are providing structure protection in the area. To the west, crews continued to reinforce dozer lines from Lake Davis to Grizzly Ridge. Crews continue to mop up and improve completed line along Grizzly Ridge. Mop up continues around homes in the Devil’s Punchbowl area, where dozer lines continued to be built or reinforced on the north and south ends. Structure protection remains in place within Genesee, Taylorsville, Greenhorn, and Cromberg.
