Once a wildfire has burned through an area, many dangers may remain. There may still be smoke in the respective areas as firefighters continue their suppression operations. When driving to your property check for hazards. At your property check for fire or fire damage. If your services are off, check for burned service equipment and facilities. When you have secured safety outside of your home, check inside for fire or damage.
Crews continue to reinforce and patrol the fire line in the Junction City and Dutch creek drainage areas. From Maxwell Creek to Barker Creek Road, firefighters are strengthening containment lines; if conditions allow today, aircraft may be used to reinforce the fire line. Resources are maintaining the fire perimeter between Barker Creek Road and Big Creek by conducting mop-up and patrol. In the Cedar Gulch area, crews completed direct fire line despite an increase in fire activity on the north eastern side of Hayfork. Crews are actively engaged with direct suppression efforts. West of Cedar Gulch, coordination with the North Zone is
ongoing to connect contingency line between the two zones.
Conditions will cool slightly today with smoke partially clearing over the Hayfork area in the afternoon hours, mainly over the southern edge of the fire. Stronger terrain driven winds are expected late afternoon into the early evening with gusts as late as 6:00 P.M. but will diminish overnight. Relative humidity values will recover to a moderate level.
Northern California has experienced large fire activity and will likely experience an extended fire season. Fires burning in northern California are exhibiting extreme fire growth based on critical fuel conditions. The prioritization of resources is always based on life, property, and natural resources. Under these drought conditions, wildfires are burning rapidly with extreme severity and have traveled up to 8 miles in a single day. Fire spread is fuel driven and does not depend on wind speed, as we have seen in previous years. Firefighters are experiencing conditions never seen before, such as increased rates of spread, spotting and active nighttime burning. We coordinate very closely with the US Forest Service and CalOES for our local and out of state partners, to ensure resources are shared.
Community Meetings: A virtual community meeting will be held at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 25th, 2021. The meeting will be live streamed on the CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit Facebook page, CAL FIRE IMT 5’s YouTube channel and Shasta Trinity National Forest Facebook page.
