Current Situation

Situation Summary

Current Situation:

CAL FIRE’s Incident Management Team 5 (IMT 5) transitioned into Unified Command with the U.S. Forest Service today at 07:00 A.M. The fire has been split
two zones. The Alaska Interagency Incident Management Team is in command of the North Zone of the Monument Fire. IMT 5 is in command of the South Zone of the Monument Fire. The South Zone’s northern border starts at Highway 299 and Coopers Bar just west of Junction City extending to the southern border ending
at Hyampom Road and Little Creek. Both teams are engaged in a coordinated and collaborative response to take suppressive action on the Monument Fire, which has continued to challenge crews because of erratic fire behavior, dry and hot air temperatures and drought stressed fuels. Due to resource draw down throughout the state, the priority for firefighter and law enforcement is the safety of the community and protection of infrastructure.
