Current Situation

Situation Summary

Current Situation:

The fire is fuel driven as a result of extended and extreme drought conditions with influence of steep slopes and winds. Northeast winds brought active fire behavior and lower relative humidity. Consistent fire spread was observed in all fuel types, but accelerated in lighter fuels with a southwest exposure. Smoke from nearby fires continued to influence fire behavior.

Firefighters continue to minimize impacts to residents, critical infrastructure, commercial timberland and surrounding communities. Ground resources continue to construct strategic primary and secondary contingency fire lines while improving and reinforcing direct fire line.

Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has increased law enforcement presence throughout the fire area. Additional personnel from neighboring departments are assisting with evacuations and property protection.

CAL FIRE damage inspection teams will continue to make assessments in affected areas.

The Monument Fire continues to threaten communities in Trinity County. Evacuation orders remain in effect for areas of Hayfork, Sky Ranch Road, Junction City, Red Hill, Canyon Creek, Coopers Bar, Big Bar, Del Loma, Big Flat, Helena, Cedar Flat, Burnt Ranch and Barker Mountain. Evacuation Warnings:

Road Closures:
Hwy 299 is closed between Cedar Flat and 0.4 miles west of McCoy Lane Road due to fire activity and fire related rockslides and downed snags. It is an important transportation route between the Pacific coast and inland communities where closure limits access to medical care for residents downriver in the fire area.
