Situation Summary

Fire suppression efforts will continue through today on the Maria Fire, which broke out just south of the City of Santa Paula at approximately 3:20pm on Monday, June 16, 2025.  Personnel from Ventura County Fire responding to the initial call encountered a 5-6 acre brush fire located in heavy vegetation along the southern side of the Santa Clara River bottom near the former Mountain View Golf Course.  The fire triggered issuance of an evacuation warning for the area immediately adjacent to South Mountain Road as fire crews worked to gain access to the fire.  Smoke from the fire quickly spread east throughout much of the Santa Clara Valley carried by light onshore winds.

Fire crews made good progress on the fire throughout the afternoon, halting its spread by late evening and allowing the evacuation warning to be lifted shortly before 7:30pm.

The fire was mapped yesterday evening at just over 50 acres. As of this morning, the fire is being reported by VCFD at 60 acres, with 60% containment.

Fire crews will continue to conduct clean-up operations on this fire throughout the day.
