Rumsey Fire

There will be 10 engines, four dozers, two hand crews and five water tenders assigned to the fire overnight with the two night-vision capable helicopters available until midnight.

Fire activity continues to die down as the temperature cools down and humidity increases.

Two CAL FIRE Hawk’s are conducting night water-dropping operations on the fire, extending crucial aerial firefighting capabilities now that we are past sunset.

The dozers on the fire are making good progress at the head of the fire and wrapping the slop over that crossed Sand Creek Road.

Firefighters expect the fire behavior to moderate now that we are past sundown.

The fire is now approximately 450 acres and 10% contained. Firefighters have started making progress behind a coordinated air and ground attack. Winds on the fire are light. The fire has made runs to the northeast, east and southeast. The spot fire across Sand Creek Road is approximately 75 acres.

Airtankers have been laying heavy retardant lines at the head of the fire and the right flank where it crossed Sand Creek Road. The four dozers on the fire are working to tie in control lines in those two areas. Helicopters have been focusing on water drops on the left (western) flank of the fire.

Humidities at scene have come up from 27.8 percent to 33.1 percent in the last two hours.

The fire is now well established on the south side of Sand Creek Road with short-ranged spotting being observed. Additional resources continue to be ordered.

The fire has been mapped at 119.65 acres. It is making a good run to the southeast at Sand Creek Rd. The air attack on the fire includes nine air tankers and four helicopters.
