Acreage has been updated from 133 acres to 93 acres following additional field verification. Yesterday, a qualified field observer walked the fire perimeter and measured the actual burned area, including only the main fire and spot fires. The previous acreage estimate included some unburned fuels between the burned areas. The fire is 93 acres and 70% contained.
The fire has been updated to 133 acres based on data from an intelligence flight. The increase reflects improved mapping and does not indicate additional fire growth.
Due to the diligent work of both air and ground firefighting resources, containment of the Talbot Fire has increased to 25%.
Firefighters have been working throughout the day to strengthen control lines and ensure there is no additional spread of the fire. This included the falling of damaged & hazard trees and mopping up identified hot spots.
Although the fire continues to stay within current control lines, the increase in acreage is based upon the new IR flight provided today and the inclusion of spot fires from previous operational periods which had not have been mapped.
The Cedars community is no longer under an evacuation warning, however warnings remain in place.

The fire (75 acres and 15% contained) is burning on the Tahoe National Forest, approximately 4 miles northeast of French Meadows Reservoir and 14 miles southwest of Truckee, California.

As of 7:00 a.m. this morning, the Sacramento Regional Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the Talbot Fire.
The fire is burning in heavy timber across extremely steep and rugged terrain. The fire continues to pose a threat to structures and private timberlands while also burning near the Granite Chief Wilderness. Over the past day, both air and ground resources have been working tirelessly in full suppression strategies to contain the fire as quickly as possible.
Crews have made significant progress in preventing further fire spread. Firefighters have been working to surround the fire’s perimeter with hoselines and handline, while dozers have assisted in creating control lines to prevent further growth. Several helicopters have been coordinating with firefighters on the ground to attack hot spots and areas of high heat.
Today, firefighters will continue to mop up areas to increase containment, while ensuring the fire stays within its current footprint.
Forest Closures & Restrictions: Tahoe National Forest has issued the Talbot Fire Area, Road, Recreation Site and Trail Closure. Recreation areas, trails and roads in the fire area are closed. The Western States Trail is closed from Forest Road 96-62 to the Granite Chief Wilderness boundary. The fire remains at 75 acres and is 15% contained. It continues to pose a threat to structures and private timberlands. The incident is also burning near the Granite Chief Wilderness, with challenging terrain and limited access continuing to hamper firefighting efforts.
An evacuation warning remains in effect overnight. Deputies will remain in the warning area throughout the night to provide a swift response should conditions change.
The Sacramento Regional Type 3 Incident Management Team has been assigned to assist with management of the incident, effective tomorrow morning.
Fire behavior moderated overnight allowing crews to gain access and make progress. The Talbot Fire is now 15% contained.
The Talbot Fire is now 75 acres due to more accurate mapping.
The Talbot Fire is now 150 acres and Evacuation Warnings are in effect. Night flying aircrafts have been assigned to the fire.
