Incident Updates
Crews put in hard today and brought the fire to 100% containment.
Crews are in patrol status focusing on the steep terrain within the fire perimeter extinguishing lingering hotspots.
The fire is now 95% contained. Acreage remapped at 14 acres.
Crews began mop-up and fire suppression repair efforts throughout the evening and will continue working to establish 200 feet of control line around the fire perimeter to strengthen containment.
The fire is holding at 23 acres and is 5% contained. Hose line and retardant are in place around the perimeter.
The incident was initially reported as a vehicle over the side near Highway 243 and Mount Edna Road. The vehicle caught fire, which extended into the surrounding vegetation.
One bystander climbed down into the rocky terrain and pulled an occupant from the vehicle. Fire crews assisted the bystander back up the hillside, where they were evaluated by paramedics and declined further treatment or transport.
Helicopter 605 hoisted the vehicle occupant from the ravine using a Stokes basket and transported the patient to a landing zone. The patient was then transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
Firefighters remain on scene working to strengthen containment and extinguish hot spots.
ROAD CLOSURE: Highway 243 is expected to remain closed until approximately 8:00 p.m. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Please follow California Highway Patrol for road closure updates.
An additional five type III engines and two hand crews have been requested.
Firefighters are on-scene of approximately 25 acres burning at a critical rate of spread. Additional air and ground resources are responding.
