Dome Fire is 47% contained.
The Dome Fire is now 6,815 acres and 41% contained.
The Dome fire is now 6,806 acres with 40% containment.
Updated mapping has provided a more accurate assessment of the fire’s size, which is now 6,760 acres.
On Sunday, the fire remained within its existing footprint along the southern and western areas of the fire, where firefighters focused efforts on mopping up and improving containment lines. Crews continue to focus containment efforts along the fire’s eastern flank. Helicopters are being used to make water drops and reposition firefighters to more active fire areas, including to support efforts to contain a slop-over that crossed Ostrander Trail on Thursday. Pack mules continue to be used to move firefighting equipment, supporting crews as they work to build containment lines along the fire’s eastern perimeter. Additional crews continue to arrive to assist with containment efforts moving forward.

The Dome Fire continues to move north, northwest, and northeast, with fire activity slowing as it reaches areas previously burned by the 2017 Empire Fire and other past fires. With less vegetation available to burn in these areas, fire behavior has been reduced to creeping and smoldering. Gusty winds continue to carry embers ahead of the main fire, resulting in spot fires to the north.
Firefighters continue working from the ground and air. Crews are being transported by helicopter into difficult to access areas, and additional Hotshot crews and firefighting resources are responding to support suppression efforts. Water dropping helicopters are also assigned to the incident.
Smoke will continue to affect portions of Yosemite National Park and surrounding communities. The heaviest impacts are expected around El Portal and Wawona, with periods of smoke also possible in Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows.
Yosemite National Park remains open. However, the Chilnualna Falls Trail and areas near the fire remain temporarily closed. Visitors should check current park information and closures before traveling into the affected area.

California Interagency Incident Management Team 3 is mobilizing to the Dome Fire and is scheduled to take command later today.
Today firefighters engaged the Dome Fire burning in a remote area of Yosemite National Park with limited access. The fire made upslope runs aligned with terrain and wind. Short-range spotting was observed.
CAL FIRE air resources are assigned and supporting firefighting operations.
