CAL FIRE King Air 200
Multi-Mission Aerial Support
The King Air aircraft serves as a versatile asset within CAL FIRE's aerial fleet, performing two critical roles: providing real-time intelligence and serving as a key training platform.
Mission
Aerial Intelligence and Mapping: CAL FIRE Intel 641
The King Air model designated as CAL FIRE Intel 641 is the department's dedicated, "eyes in the sky" platform. Its speed allows it to reach anywhere in California in just over two hours, bringing real time awareness to emergency operations. Intel 641 is equipped with sophisticated heat-sensing and imaging cameras. This technology allows it to spot, map, and gather visual information from the air, even penetrating heavy smoke. Sensor Operators from CAL FIRE’s Remote Sensing Program use this collected data to rapidly generate maps, updates, and reports. This information is instantly relayed to incident commanders and crews, enabling informed, real-time tactical decision-making to support firefighters on the front line.
Air Attack Training Platform
The King Air is also utilized as a training platform for personnel in the Air Attack role. It supports the rigorous training for the Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS) position. This ensures that CAL FIRE has a constant supply of highly skilled supervisors capable of coordinating all aerial assets during an incident.
Together, these missions make the King Air an essential, all-around mission support aircraft, providing both cutting-edge data and foundational training for effective emergency response.
